- Gambit Voice Lines -
yes, i loved this character enough to spend a crap ton of time getting, cleaning and preserving his audio lines.
I loved this game so but alas, dead as fuck in the water now. Marvel yanked their license to Gazillion for what were likely monetary reasons (ie, it wasn't making enough profit) but there was also a bunch of scandal at the time about the CEO being inappropriate with women in his employ and outside of it. I doubt this was the only reason as CEO types being absolutely shitty humans is a story old as time and Marvel itself wouldn't have cared, but hey, that's probably just my cynical side talking. Bobby Kotick hasn't been assassinated yet either.
For those poor souls who never got a chance to play this little gem, Marvel Heroes was an ARPG style game with pokemon collectibilty aspects, as getting all the 'cool' heroes in your lineup was a definite thing. There was always a free hero on offer every month, there were dozens of outfits to buy, it was slick as hell. It was also flashy, it was fast (until the last patch before the closure which fucked with the pacing of the fights something awful, but I guess that's also water under the bridge at this point), and one you found your own true hero love, there was no better feeling.
One very neat piece of icing on this game was something you don't see too often - the voice lines were pretty specific, and they were often triggered by other heroes nearby. Storm would often call out to Wolverine if he was nearby, Gambit would give sweet romantic lines if Rogue was in the vicinty. Even wearing a different costume would give you unique voice lines
For me, my darling was Gambit. Once I got him, I played him pretty much exclusively because he was just a character of perfection. There was a ton of leaping and spinning with his bo staff, his voice lines were fantastic and the purple'n'pink splash effects just thrilled my little child soul. When his Death costume (and voice lines that came with) was up for purchase, I was all over that like white on rice.
Honorable play mentions go to Silver Surfer, Storm, Moon Knight and the White Queen/Emma Frost.
