Eden Revisited

Eve spat out the apple. Adam
approved.
God smiled,
the serpent swore.
Cain jollied Abel.
Life in Eden
more and more
resembled Paradise.

Milleniums later in the sun
the Garden brims.
Crosslegged in the fallen blossoms,
rapt, one star-eyed Boy
whittles and carves;
tying two sticks athwart,
crossed - so;
all appleruddy, whistling
and making for himself
(Dear God in Heaven!)
a toy.
